Description
Beacon is an orbital station above Holland, home to a few thousand people working the mining operations below. It wasn't built so much as accumulated: sections added over the years as the operation grew, bolted together in configurations that made sense at the time and sometimes still do. From a docking approach it looks like it's mid-construction or mid-demolition, and on any given day that's probably half true.
Beacon started as a mining co-op and still runs like one. Every resident with a stake gets a vote, and everything goes to a vote: resource allocation, expansion projects, who gets a berth, what to do about the plants. It's slow and it's loud, and most decisions end up being someone's compromise that nobody's fully happy with. People stay anyway. Owning a piece of something, even a piece of this, counts for something out here.
Beacon runs regular traffic to Lodestar and Concord.
